HCHS'S AMY STEPS UP!!!

Wednesday afternoon, our shelter director, Amy, was staying late to finish the day when she received a call from the Athens Animal Control Officer. He was bringing in a large dog that had been hit by a car. He suspected that the dog was critically injured and wanted Amy on site. While he was in route Amy called Norma to consult concerning the steps to take with the injured animal..They agreed to talk again after Amy assessed the dog. At that point in time vet offices were closed. The dog came to the shelter with "bad" head trauma, but it was alert. The dog was a male, very large breed. Amy and Norma decided to place the dog in a quiet room in the office area with comfortable bedding and cover to await a vet trip the next morning. Amy is not a "wait a while" person. She went to the location where the dog was picked up. It was early evening and people were arrivng home for the day. She went house to house along the highway until she found the dog's owner. The owner followed her back to the shelter to retrieve "Rocko" the mastiff. "Rocko" had managed to escape his fence and made his way to the road. We do not know at this time how "Rocko" is doing, but he is at home with his family. We will update you later.
